Airaa Movie Review
Airaa Movie Tagline:
Nayanthara upsets with a sub-par horror flick
Airaa Movie Story:
Nayanthara plays dual roles for the first time in her career. Yamuna, a journalist at a publication, is a head strong woman who wants to make money and become popular. She suggests starting a YouTube channel to upload fake ghost videos.
As it goes viral on YouTube, Yamuna encounters a spirit in her own house. Meanwhile, Amudhan (Kalaiyarasan) is surrounded by the mysterious death of unknown people. Both Yamuna and Amudhan are clueless about why this is happening to them.
As they begin on a journey to seek answers, they cross paths and discover the reason behind mysterious happenings.
Airaa Movie Performances:
Nayanthara as Bhavani and Yamuna is excellent in her role. She single-handedly carries the entire film on his shoulders and excels at it by a huge margin.
Yogi Babu is quite disappointing in his role as his one-liners fail to induce laughter this time.
Kalaiyarasan as a calm and composed Amudhan has delivered a neat performance with apt expressions and body language.
Gabriella and Maathevan in their limited screen time have managed to move the audience with their honest performances as young Bhavani and Amudhan.
Airaa Movie Positives:
Director Sarjun KM should be applauded for writing a moving backstory in Airaa for Nayanthara’s character Bhavani. It talks about a lot of issues that are prevalent in society.
From colour discrimination to rape and abuse, Sarjun has addressed a lot of issues in the film and has managed to convey a message that is much-needed for the society.
Composer KS Sundaramurthy’s music and background score are huge advantages to the film’s script and the proceedings. Kaariga and Megadhootam song are brilliant to listen to.
Cinematographer Sudarshan Srinivasan’s camera work is top-notch as he has used colours to depict the mood of the scene.
Sarjun has incorporated the Butterfly effect into this horror story in an effective manner. The domino effect showcased in the pre-climax in written well.
Airaa Movie Negatives:
As the director builds up for a great climax, the big reveal is so ridiculous and when you see it on-screen you question the point of the movie.
There are many logical loopholes in the film, which reads the path of the usual horror movie template.
The runtime of Airaa also adds up to the film’s disadvantage. Even though it runs for 2 hours and 20 minutes, it feels like the film is longer than it already is.
Airaa Movie Verdict:
Director Sarjun KM’s second flick Airaa starring Nayanthara has a handful of worthy moments to enjoy on-screen. However, the film’s climax will put you off instantly says our review.
