Dhruva Sarja and Rashmika Mandanna joined hands for a mass masala entertainer titled Pogaru, which hit the theatres on February 19. The film, directed by Nandakishore, was also dubbed in Tamil as Semma Thimuru. Pogaru became famous even before the film release, thanks to the popular Karabu song. After the film released, it has been receiving a lukewarm response from the audience and critics alike. However, certain scenes from the film did not go down well with the Brahmin community. They took offence to the scene where some miscreants place their foot on the priest's shoulder.
Director Nandakishore, the Brahmin community and the Karnataka Brahmin Board Chairman objected those scenes and said that it hurt the sentiments of the community. Following the controversy, the makers decided to cut 14 scenes from the film. The filmmaker said that he did not intend to hurt anyone and assured that the controversial scenes will be removed. Nandakishore also added that this move will not affect the film's storyline and hence he will do it soon. Earlier, there was a case filed against the makers after Karabu song, which promotes violent behaviour against women, went viral.
