Before his demise, he was expected to do some big-budget films. However, the actor is known for rejecting some of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood, which if had done, it would have changed his graph in Bollywood forever.
Goliyon ki Rasleela: Ram Leela
This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film was offered to Sushant Singh Rajput before Ranveer Singh could be finalized. Yes, you read that right! The role of Ram opposite Deepika Padukone as Leela was initially offered to Sushant but the actor had to turn it down due to his contract with other producers. Later, some of the close friends of the actor revealed that Sushant regretted denying the film which later went on to change the career graph of Ranveer Singh in the industry.
Kabir Singh
This Hindi remake of the south Indian film of the same name was earlier offered to Sushant. However, due to similar reasons of binding contracts, he turned down the offer and the film slipped from his hands and was given to Shahid Kapoor. Shahid Kapoor got immense recognition for his role as Kabir opposite Kiara Advani. The super hit songs and the bold plot broke some of the massive records of that year.
There were some rumors after the demise of Sushant that for the blockbuster film Andhadhun, Sushant was the first choice of director Sriram Raghavan, however, some casting decisions took last-minute changes and Ayushmann Khurana was approached for the role. Andhadhun has a unique style of the direction of thriller comedy. Along with Ayushmann, the film stars Tanu and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. It changed Ayushmann's image of doing movies in the industry and since then, his career has taken a high turn.
The famous Ranveer Singh and Vani Kapoor film was first offered to none other than Sushant Singh Rajput. The director, Aditya Chopra, wanted to recreate the magic of Vani and Sushant film 'Shudh Desi Romance'. However, it was ultimately given to Ranveer Singh. The songs of the film were superhit even though the films performed satisfactorily at the box office.
It would have been Sushant and Katrina Kaif's first film together, had Sushant said yes to the film. Fitoor, which was based on the novel Great Expectations, would have seen Sushant in the role of Noor, but Aditya Roy Kapur was finally decided for doing the same. The songs of the film are melodious and the film performed well on the box office.
Half Girlfriend
This Ekta Kapoor film was first thought to be given to Sushant Singh Rajput. The role of a Bihari boy trying to adjust in a university of Delhi and falling in love with an upteen Delhi girl, was considered a good fit for Sushant. However, the film was later passed on to Arjun Kapoor who ultimately played the role opposite Shraddha Kapoor. The songs of the film are super hit and the film too worked well at the box office.
'I was doing many films and they are all releasing now. (Laughs) I don’t want to name them. What happens is, when I give my word to someone and he’s delaying (not because he wants to, but because of a particular reason) and I get to understand it, I won’t ditch. So be it the biggest film with the biggest studio or the smallest film, I won’t leave another film. So, unfortunately, because of the two films that I was doing and that didn’t happen, I lost out on many films,' Sushant was quoted as saying in an earlier interview.
RAW - Romeo Akbar Walter
For the role played by John Abraham in Romeo Akbar Walter, the makers had decided to cast Sushant Singh Rajput. However, the last-minute changed happened, and the then hit films given by John were taken note of and he was finally decided for the role.
Saare Jahan Se Acha
The famous upcoming film which is based on the story of astronaut Rakesh Sharma had chosen Sushant to essay the role of Rakesh Sharma. There were also reports saying that Aamir is also a choice of the makers, however, the makers have now finally chosen Vicky Kaushal for the role.
