The Maharashtra government recently permitted the resumption of shooting for films and TV. This has allowed many producers to resume work on their upcoming projects. Laxman Utekar for one has confirmed that he will not resume shooting for Mimi until the pandemic dies down. In a recent interview with Mid-day Utekar said that the cast and crew are not going to return anytime soon. Utekar also further confirmed that Mimi is behind schedule and will be hitting theatres much later than previously anticipated. Mimi stars Kriti Sanon as a young surrogate mother in the lead role.
Laxman revealed that the film only has about five days of shooting left. He said, 'We have close to five days’ shoot left, including the filming of a song and some scenes. But we don’t plan to resume shoot anytime soon. The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is increasing with every passing day. Unless that comes under control, I don’t want to call my team on the set.'
Speaking about the themes of his next film he said, 'With the film, the audience will get complete clarity on surrogacy. Even though it is centered on surrogacy, the soul of the film is the bond between two mothers.'
Mimi takes inspiration from the critically acclaimed Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy. The film also stars Sai Tamahankar, Pankaj Tripathi, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak in various important roles.
Meanwhile, various other actors including Neha Dhupia have also expressed concern overshooting for upcoming films and shows as the pandemic is still rising.
