Actress Janhvi Kapoor is renowned for her roles in films like Mili, Good Luck Jerry, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, and many others. The performer recently spoke about her experience in Bollywood thus far. She admitted that she felt 'at a disadvantage' despite having 'gotten certain opportunities more easily.' Janhvi added that it hurts when 'some random, anonymous person on the internet' criticizes her acting skills or calls her a 'nepo baby' while she is working hard or going through a difficult time.
Janhvi is Boney Kapoor and late actress Sridevi's older daughter. She is a producer of motion pictures. In 2018, she made her acting debut in the Karan Johar-produced film Dhadak. Khushi Kapoor, her younger sister, will shortly make her acting debut in Zoya Akhtar's The Archies on Netflix. Jahnvi discussed how people assume 'she's gotten by easily in life' in a recent interview. She discussed the influence her mother Sridevi has on her choices.
Janhvi said to Harper's Bazaar India, 'I am prioritizing hard work. And I’ve always been very clear about my goals in life... I want to live up to my mother’s [Sridevi] legacy. This doesn’t come from a place of arrogance, but a desire to want to give back to my parents, as well as the audience. While I may have gotten certain opportunities more easily, I also feel like I’m at a disadvantage. In the sense, people aren’t going to come and watch my films from a neutral perspective — they’re going to come in saying, ‘Oh, she’s gotten by easily in life; she’s privileged.’ So I have to convince them that I have something to offer; I work hard, and I value everything that I have been given. I love cinema, and I am not apologetic about it anymore, because I know I’m good at what I do... I’m just warming up'.
Janhvi discussed how people respond to her and her films in the same interview. She remarked, 'You know, it really hurts when you’re putting in the hard work, the sweat, and blood, or undergoing the mental turmoil, and some random, anonymous person on the internet goes like, ‘Acting nahi aati toh kyun karti ho, nepotism ki bacchi? (If you can’t act, why do you try, nepo baby?)' It takes all of a second to reduce you to something insignificant. On the other hand, if somebody says, ‘You were good in Mili, but you could improve your performance in another film,’ then I respect that. You get to a point where you just have to acknowledge that some people are plain sad — for the lack of a better word — and are on a quest to snatch away your happiness.”
Janhvi was most recently featured in the survival movie Mili. Her father Boney Kapoor served as the producer of the movie. It is a replica of the Malayalam film Helen. Janhvi has many movies scheduled. She will appear in the films Dostana 2, Bawaal, and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi opposite Rajkummar Rao.
