A few days ago, director Jayaraj announced the decision to make the second part of Highway, which starred Suresh Gopi 27 years ago. It's been three to four years since Jayaraj started thinking about making a sequel to Johnny Walker, which was released 30 years ago. Director Sunil has informed us that he is taking the second part of Babu Antony's movie Chanta, which was released in 1995. From CID Musa to Big B, we also hear about the continuation of films from time to time.
According to SN Swamy, who has scripted the most sequels in Malayalam cinema, writing a sequel to an old film is more difficult than making a new film. When writing sequels to blockbuster movies, there is also the responsibility of audience expectations. The characteristics and style of the characters from the old film will be in the minds of the audience. especially when the subject is a criminal investigation.
Between CBI Part II and Part III, the K.Madhu-SN Swamy-Mammooty team made four other films. In all four movies, the subject is under investigation. Still, Swamy was not ready to 'leave any of them to the CBI movieline'. K. Madhu has asked whether all those cases should be made into a CBI continuation. Swamy's reply was that the time has yet to come. Although he has written many sequels, Swamy says that he is not very interested in writing sequels.
Even before the release of the fifth part of 'CBI', the second part of 'Bigb', 'Lucifer' and others started a fuss in the industry, but with the great success of Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram', the sequel became trending in Malayalam as well. It is also special that the sequel discussions are reviving in the golden jubilee year of the release of the first sequel in Malayalam cinema, 'Lakshana Motha'.
