The film Ariyippu, directed by Mahesh Narayanan and starring Kunchacko Boban, was selected in the main competition category at the 75th Locarno Film Festival. Ariyippu is the first Malayalam film to be screened in the main competition section of the festival, which started 75 years ago. The fair will start on August 3, 2022.
In a post shared on Facebook, Kunchacko Boban said that he is very happy to receive such an honor for the announcement as Udaya Pictures, founded by his grandfather and father, completes 75 years.
'The 75th Locarno Film Festival, which will open on 3rd August will have a Malayalam film 'ARIYIPPU' in the international competition section for the first time ever in the history of the festival.
And as it coincides with the 75-year legacy of Udaya Pictures, it indeed is a personal honor for me as well as a tribute to my Grandfather and father.
I extend my wholehearted thanks to my dear Friend/Writer/Co-Producer/Director Mahesh Narayanan, Co-Producer Shebin Backer, and the entire team of ARIYIPPU for being part of making this History,' KunchackoBoban wrote on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the trailer of Kunchacko Boban starrer Nana Thaan Case Kodu is out. The makers have prepared a different teaser that alternates between a murder that took place and the court proceedings on the basis of it. Kunchacko Boban's makeover in the teaser is shocking.
Ratheesh Balakrishnan, the director of Android Kunjappan, is writing and directing the film. It is also the first Malayalam film starring Tamil actress Gayathri Shankar, who is famous for her films like Super Deluxe and Vikram. Basil Joseph and Unnimaya are the other main stars of the film.
For the 60-day shoot, around 10 locations in five villages in the Kasaragod district were used. The film will be released in theatres on August 12.
