The Romantics, a new project from OTT giant Netflix, will tell the story of Aditya Chopra and his journey in filmmaking. The first trailer video, which announced the project, dropped on Wednesday. Smriti Mundhra, the creator of Indian Matchmaking and some Never Have I Ever episodes, directs it. This year, it will release on Valentine's Day, February 14th.
In the video, several celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan, discuss Yash Raj Films.
Abhishek Bachchan says, “Films that come out of India are completely unique to our culture. They don't try to be like anybody else.” Karan Johar appears in the next scene. He reveals how Yash Chopra's films caught his attention during his initial years. “He was this young director wanting to make different films,” said Amitabh. He had worked with both Yash and Aditya Chopra.
Salman went on to discuss Yash Chopra's experimentation with various genres. Aamir Khan, on the other hand, believes Yash Chopra was all about romance. Shah Rukh recalls, “There was a gentleman always standing next to Yashji. His son Adi.” Rani Mukerji, who worked with Aditya Chopra and later married him, lavished praise on him. She says, “I wanted to be the actor who talks about the modern Indian woman, and he believed in my talent.”
Ranveer Singh was launched under Aditya Chopra's banner. He revealed what Chopra told him ahead of his film debut. “Nobody else saw it. Only he saw it,” he mentions. Hrithik credits the filmmaker with helping to shape the 'contours of our industry.'
The celebrities are then informed that they will be documenting Aditya Chopra's thoughts on the subject. Reacting to it, Abhishek says, “Aditya Chopra is a rumour. He doesn't exist.” “He is very private. He hates going out,” added Madhuri. Ayushmann Khurrana, Ranveer Singh, and Hrithik Roshan all agree and wonder when he last gave an interview.
The late Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor also appear in the video. Rishi is heard saying, “We are definitely a force to reckon in the world as far as cinema's concerned.” “Our cinema is an inherent part of Indians,” chimed in Shah Rukh. Overall, the documentary celebrates the shift in Indian cinema brought about by Yash Chopra and Yash Raj Films. The four-part series features 35 lending voices. It will be a memorial to Yash Chopra.
