Kona Venkat is all set to make a biopic on the weightlifting legend Karnam Malleswari. The official announcement for the film arrived yesterday. The film will be a Pan India film backed by Sanjay Reddy and will come out in multiple languages. The latest buzz on the film is that the makers are considering either Rakul Preet Singh or Taapse-Pannu to portray Karnam Malleswari on the silver screen.
Karnam Malleswari is a weightlifter. She was the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics. She won the bronze medal in weightlifting in the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Hailing from the mini-town of Amadalavalasa, she started weightlifting at the age of 12.
Sources say that either Rakul Preet Singh or Taapse Pannu will essay her role in the biopic. Taapsee has appeared in several sports films before. She was recently seen in the hit film Saand Ki Aankh. She essayed the role of Shooter Dadi. She also played a hockey player in Soorma and will appear in a sprinter role in Rashmi Rocket. While Taapsee might be an easy choice to essay Karnam Malleswari, the makers are also considering Rakul Preet Singh for the role. We will have to await an official announcement.
On the work front, Taapsee will appear in the films Haseen Dillruba, Loop Lapeta, Jana Gana Mana, Shabaash Mithu, and many more. Rakul Preet Singh too has a string of upcoming films she's looking forward to. Rakul will appear in the Tamil films Ayalaan and Indian 2. She will also appear in the Bollywood films Attack, Chale Chalo, and Thank God. She will also star in an untitled Telugu film directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti.
