Rana Daggubati had acquired the remake rights of Dream Girl, a comedy-drama starring Ayushmann Khurrana while the project was still in the scripting stage. He planned to remake the film in Telugu, but things are not quite falling into place. Initially, Rana planned to rope in young actor Raj Tharun for the lead role in the Telugu remake of Dream Girl, but this project did not materialize for undisclosed reasons.

Rana and his father, Suresh Babu, a top producer in Telugu cinema have been searching for a capable director who can handle a sensitive subject like Dream Girl but they are yet to come across one. The fact that two well-established personalities in the Telugu film industry, Rana and Suresh Babu are struggling to zero in on a director who can effectively handle a remake project sounds really strange.

The Daggubati duo has put the Dream Girl remake on the back burner for now, but they plan to take the project onto the floors soon after they find a proficient director. Meanwhile, Rana is partnering with Netflix as he plans to produce web entertainment content in the days to come. Suresh Babu, as revealed by himself, has lined up 7 different projects which are in various stages of production.
