Jalebi Hindi Movie Review

Jalebi, the hindi remake of a hit Bengali film of the same name, starring Rhea Chakraborty and Varun Mitra, is quite bland and tasteless. The Pushpdeep Bharadwaj film tells the story of a couple who reflect on their disastrous relationship while travelling on a train from Mumbai to Delhi, trying to figure out how to move on with their lives. While the premise is highly relevant in today's day and age, the storytelling isn't strong enough to establish the emotional connection with the audience and take them along for the journey with the film's protagonists.
Aisha (Rhea Chakraborty) gets married to Dev (Varun Mitra) only to find out that marriage isn't her cup of tea. Post the split, they end up meeting on the train and the story is narrated through numerous flashbacks. The film has a lot of supporting characters, co-passengers in the train, who do not really lend much to the story. The songs are lack lustre and the performances by the lead characters very insipid. Although the film picks up towards the end, it fails to make up for the harrowing, tear jerking, never ending script leading upto the climax. Overall, you would be glad to have missed this train.
