Manmarziyaan Story

Love, an engulfing emotion with myriad of layers, keeps coming to us in many ways than just one. We sometimes are a sojourn in that path and sometimes, if we get lucky, we get a PR status in the pursuit of love. Nevertheless, it is the driving force of our existence. When an incredibly efficient movie maker like Anurag Kashyap narrates a mature, old-fashioned yet revolutionary tale of love through adroit method artists like Vicky Kaushal and Tapsee Pannu, who live in the skin of the characters effortlessly, one can expect nothing but a whirlpool of unabated emotions, that will pinch your heart and kindle the functioning of our thought process. One such movie is Manmariziyaan, a novel, enchanting story with smouldering tempt of emotions. This Kanika Dhillon penned tale, directed by Anurag Kashyap, starring Tapsee, Vicky Kaushal and Abhishek Bachchan, ricochets between love, insecurity, confusion and a web of tangled emotions. Although the movie is set in a village, the progressiveness in the love story sets pace to our hopes and acceptance of evolutions through generations. Rumi (Tapsee), Vicky (Vicky Kaushal) are madly in love, both physically and emotionally. Their lascivious romance mirrors how the Gen X and Gen Y of our country, from every corner of our country (like mentioned before, it’s set in a small town) believe in exploring a relationship sexually too, unabashed. All the sexual innuendos and cheesy verbal exchanges between these love birds comes to an end when Rumi’s family catch them red-handed. We all have our blinkers on when we are in love until we realise it takes a lot of more than just love for two individuals to live together in a matrimonial bond. Here is where Vicky’s frivolous attitude costs him his love. As he fails to put his act together with respect to his livelihood, Tapsee’s situation demands her to give a nod to arranged marriage. Here comes Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), a prospective swain with all the behavioural qualifications, every bride and her family look for. Here is where the straight line, magically turns into a triangle. This love triangle with tightened threads and intricate twists makes everyone give some work to their brains to think about why, what and how. Manmarziyaan has good dialogue courtesy of Kanika Dhillon, which is well complemented by the portrayal of emotions. Kashyap delves deep into the nature of young relationships, the tumultuous journey of lust driven relationships that hit a dead end when confronted with long term commitment. Kashyap has relied a lot on rivetting dialogue to keep the audiences engaged regardless of the length of the conversations between the cast. To add to this amazing pot pouri is Amit Trivedi's music, which apart from being quite catchy, help accentuate the emotions felt in the movie. Audiences are sure to be humming the tunes of sacchi mohabbat long after leaving the theatres. The three forerunners, Tapsee, Vicky and Abhishek Bachchan, have each owned their respective characters, raising the bar for method actors everywhere. While it does take some time for their characters to take off, once set in, they soar. It is really hard deciding whether it is Tapsee, Vicky or Abhishek who takes the cake for their respective performances. Overall, Manmarziyaan is meant for more mature audiences. Watch it for Kashyap's directorial magic and the engrossing performance of the Tapsee, Vicky and Abhishek.
