Actor Akshay Kumar responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent statement asking BJP members and leaders to hold off on unnecessary comments about unrelated topics like movies. Akshay stated that the film industry will benefit greatly if PM Narendra Modi's remark results in a change. He made the remarks during the Mumbai premiere of the trailer for his upcoming movie Selfiee. He added that a film is produced through a number of steps in the industry, and anyone expressing a comment makes things 'messy.'.
The announcement by PM Narendra Modi comes amidst the current boycott movement and rallies against Pathaan. PM Modi advised party members to steer clear of such comments. It is said so because they would distract from the party's development objective. Many movies, TV shows, and online series have generated controversy recently. It is because they have been accused of hurting people's feelings.
Akshay reacted to PM Modi's statement. The actor said, 'Positivity is always welcome. And of our Prime Minister is saying something like this. He is India’s biggest influencer. If he is saying something and if things change it’ll be great for the industry.'
Akshay also added, 'And why not, things should change, because we go through so much. We make films, go to the censor board, get them passed and then someone says something, and phir gadbad ho jati hai (it becomes messy). But now that he’s said it, I think it’ll be better for us.'
The most recent movie to receive widespread boycott requests is Pathaan. Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia, and Ashutosh Rana all appear in the movie. Pathaan, a Siddharth Anand-directed film, will debut in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu theatres on January 25.
On Sunday, the official trailer for Akshay's film Selfiee was released. The three-minute trailer featured Emraan as a cop desiring a selfie with Vijay, who is his favorite actor (played by Akshay). Both actors get into a fight as the events unfold.
Akshay, Emraan Hashmi, Nushratt Bharuccha, and Diana Penty play the leading roles in the Raj Mehta-directed movie. The movie is scheduled to premiere on February 24. The Malayalam film Driving License is the inspiration for Selfiee. The film featured Prithviraj and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the key roles. In the remake, Akshay and Emraan will reprise their respective parts.
