Flipkart's Samarth initiative aims to bring local vendors and producers to the forefront. The Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Flipkart under the program. The deal aims to promote the State's local arts, crafts and handloom industries.
The APSSDC-Flipkart partnership will help local artisans, weavers and craftsmen showcase their products. The aim is to help them reach a wider customer base. Arja Srikanth, MD, and CEO of APSSDC say the deal aims to help remote local producers gain access to relevant markets. In doing so, it will give them access to a Pan-India customer base. The deal is definitely another step forward in the Make in India movement.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group spoke of the partnership. “Andhra Pradesh has always been at the forefront of economic growth and currently leads the charts when it comes to Ease of Doing Business. We are thrilled to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to allow the State’s artisans to showcase and sell their products on a transparent platform; with a promise of wider market access,” said Kumar.
Flipkart launched the initiative a year ago. Since then, 5,00,000 artisans, weavers, and micro-enterprises have benefited from it. Flipkart Samarth works closely with NGOs and government bodies to reach a wide range of rural entrepreneurs.
The state government has established the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. The purpose is to coordinate the efforts of all departments focused on skill development. The APSSDC was set up under this department. Over 16 lakh students have registered. It has helped over 9 lakh young professionals enter the formal workforce.
