Delhi: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has resigned from the Congress. Gulam Nabi resigned from the primary membership of the Congress. The resignation letter was handed over to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The senior leader of the Congress has resigned from the party hoisting a riot flag. Ghulam Nabi Azad is a leader who was active in Congress for more than half a century.
 
Ghulam Nabi is stepping down from the party right after resigning from the post of Congress' campaign committee president in Jammu and Kashmir. Azad was among the 23 leaders who wrote an open letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in August 2020 demanding full-time leadership in the Congress.
 
In the subsequent AICC reorganization, Azad was removed from the post of secretary. Group 23, which also included Ghulam Nabi Azad, criticised that there was no collective discussion in the Congress party. The resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad comes at the end of many days of discomfort. Ghulam Nabi Azad also resigned from the Jammu and Kashmir Political Affairs Committee.
