INDIA COVID-19 UPDATES: Record-breaking 1.26 lakh cases reported in 24 hours

India reported around 1.26 lakh coronavirus cases on Thursday, a number which is an all-time high since the onset of the pandemic

The surging cases of COVID-19 have been a reason for worry for all the citizens of India. With almost 1 lakh and twenty-six thousand fresh cases in 24 hours of time span, the country becomes the third most affected nation in the world, followed by the United States and Brazil. The number of deaths reported are as many as 686 taking the total death count tally to 16,68,62. The total number of active cases in India are at 9,10,319, according to the stats by the Health Ministry of India.
Meanwhile, the government of Madhya Pradesh has announced a weekend lockdown starting from 6 PM on Friday to 6 AM on Monday, in order to curb the rise in cases. Earlier this week, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had announced a night curfew from 10 PM to 6 AM till 30th April. The capital reported around 7437 cases in the last 24 hours and 24 fatalities, while Maharashtra reported around 59,907 cases. The PM of India, Narendra Modi, held a video conferencing meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states to discuss the issue of the coronavirus crisis.
