KKR batter extremely well on the sluggish surface to post 188 on their scoreboard, largely thanks to Nitish Rana (80 runs) and Rahul Tripathi (53). SRH’s star spinner Rashid Khan was impressive with the ball as he bowled an economical spell conceding just 24 runs in his 4-over quota and also picked two wickets.
Chasing 189 on the sluggish surface in Chennai is not an easy task by any stretch of imagine and SRH lost their openers David Warner and Saha in the first 3 overs to make matter worse. But Manish Pandey and Bairstow stitched together a good partnership to reconstruct the innings. The latter got out soon after scoring his half century.
Manish found it hard to accelerate in the penultimate stage of SRH innings and the likes of Nabi, and Vijay Shankar couldn’t get going either. Abdul Samad showed wonderful composure by scoring a six off the very first ball he faced. He will be a key player for the Hyderabad-based franchise as the tournament progresses.
Russel was very economical for KKR towards the end of the innings as he bowled two death overs and conceded just 17 off them.
SRH do have a few positives but their top order batsmen need to put on a better show. Including Kane Williamson in the playing XI will do a world of good to the team.
