Enforcement Directorate to question Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with mining scams in the state. ED issued a notice to Hemant Soren to appear for questioning at the regional office in Ranchi on Thursday.
The ED had earlier arrested the Chief Minister's aide, Pankaj Mishra, and two others in the case. The arrest came after a state-wide raid in July that seized Rs 11.88 crore from Mishra's bank accounts. 5.34 crore in unaccounted money was found in his house, which was big news.
It is reported that the ED recovered the passbook of Hemant Soren and some checks signed by him from the house of Mishra, who is the main accused in the case. In the chargesheet, the ED accused Pankaj Mishra, a friend of Hemant Soren, of controlling illegal mining in Barhaith, the chief minister's assembly constituency, through his associates.
The ED has filed a chargesheet against Pankaj Mishra and his aides Bachu Yadav and Prem Prakash. 37 lakh has so far been seized by the ED, which is probing cash flows from illegal mining in the state.
Soren's media advisor, Abhishek Prasad, was also questioned by the ED in the month of August. Soren is also facing allegations that it granted itself a mining lease in 2021. It was also reported that the Election Commission had recommended the disqualification of the Chief Minister following the BJP's complaint that he had violated election rules by extending the mining lease to himself.
At the same time, Soren also accused his party, JMM, of trying to sideline the MLAs of the ruling BJP alliance and overthrow the government.
