PM Modi's 2 day visit to Bangladesh begins today; first international visit since the COVID-19 outbreak

Dhaka awaits PM Modi's arrival today. PM Modi is all set to talk part in the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Bangladesh. March 26th March marks the 50 years of Independence. Bangladesh's grand Independence Day celebrations coincide with the birth anniversary Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation This visit marks the first foreign trip for PM Modi since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. PM Modi is visiting Bangladesh on the invitation of Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheik Hasina. The two leaders are to hold talks over the next two days. Yesterday, PM Modi made a statement about the trip. “My visit will not only be an occasion to convey appreciation for Bangladesh’s remarkable economic and developmental strides under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary leadership, but also to commit India’s abiding support for these achievements,” said the Prime Minister. “I will also express India’s support and solidarity for Bangladesh’s fight against Covid-19,” he added. PM noted that his first international visit is to, “our friendly neighbouring country, with which India shares deep cultural, linguistic and people-to-people ties”. PM Modi also stated that he was happy that his first international visit since the COVID-19 outbreak will be to Bangladesh. This visit comes after the announcement of the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2020 to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the first President of Bangladesh and later held the office of Prime Minister as well.
