The Government of India extends norms for Work from Home until December 31 as it draws close to its original deadline

On Tuesday the Government of India announced that it is going to extend norms for Work from Home until December 31, 2020. The announcement has come just weeks before the original deadline of July 31 was set to get over. On Tuesday the Department of Telecommunications relaxed norms to help facilitate people who are working from home amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
 
In its official statement the Department of Telecommunications wrote, In the view of ongoing concerns due to COVID-19, the department has decided to further extend this relaxation up to December 31, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.'
 
Soon after the news about the norms was announced the chairman of WIPRO thanked the government for its proactive approach. Rishad Premji took to Twitter and wrote on behalf of WIPRO, Thank you to the government for their tremendous support on the new ways of working from day 1. This has helped tremendously in further elevating our standing and responsiveness globally.
 
Debjani Ghosh who is the president of Nasscom wrote in a tweet, 'Thank u @ rsprasad n Secretary @DoT_India for your strong support for Indian IT. This will ensure business continuity n employee safety.. n also increase our talent pool to tier 2 n 3 cities.
 
The original government rules stated that the norms are relaxed until April 31. However, as the pandemic did not slow down the government extended it until July 31. Now since the deadline came close the government extended the deadline once again to the end of this year.
