Interestingly enough, Mamata’s Trinamool Congress managed to hold its ground and take a decisive lead in the assembly elections. The party has already won 198 MLA seats and is leading in another 16. It has breached the magic figure and is set to form the government in West Bengal with a total of 214 MLAs on its side.
Multiple roadshows and public meetings held by BJP bigwigs Narendra Modi and Amit Shah seem to have yielded mediocre results. The saffron party was really confident of sweeping the polls but Mamata’s TMC had other ideas and restricted the former to 76 constituencies in the state.
Coming back to Nandigram election results, Mamata Banerjee and other TMC leaders called for immediate recounting but the election commission dismissed the plea. As things stand, BJP’s Suvendhu Adhikari has defeated Mamata Banerjee from the constituency.
